Heathrow to Sabang

Monday 5th April.
Managed to get to heathrow airport in plenty of time for browsing Duty Free shops after staying overnight in Heanthfield Lodge hotel - they picked me up from bus station in Heathrow and took me back again in morning. very comfy place for £28 per night and they will do the opposite trip on my return.

So good to feel unstressed when arriving in plenty of time for plane - stocked up on booze for boat and Rough Guide to Phillipines and China. So ended up with double cabin allowance but no-one worried.

I looked outside after my first film (100 to chose from!!) Think we flew over Russian Steppes (after 6 hours) any one recognise this:-

Sunrise April 6th

The food was edible and the wine was free and so I felt quite chilled for the 11 hour flight to Hong Kong

I was really excited about the prospect of flying into Hong Kong and as wee approached from the East we could see dozens of ships approaching and leaving the harbour way down below. Unfortunately as we came closer, the clouds and smog came in and so it was not quite the image I had of the place.

After about one hours wait in a very comfy coffee place in the transit area - blues-ay music soft lighitmg comfy chairs and escellent coffee,I boarded flight for Manilla. approaching this was alot more intersting than Hong Kong and we coud see quite aolt of scenery. I sat next to a phillipino who was returning t see his wife and family after 18 months working in Canada as a maintenance engineer on the oil fields - working outside in temperatures down to - 40 degrees. We think we have had it tough this winter. Made my trip rather a folly I think.

See next post as I am going to try a quicker way of putting this blog together!!
